Most Popular Companies That Outsource Jobs

When it comes to the outsourcing service industry, the most popular names are usually the BPO companies that serve as the middlemen between the workers and the companies that require help. What the average person doesn’t know is that the companies that outsource work are the main drivers of the industry, and that their numbers include some of the biggest companies and brand names in the world, such as:
Microsoft
The Seattle-based tech giant responsible for Windows, Bing, and the Xbox consoles is one of the biggest names to have embraced outsourcing. What makes Microsoft different is that the virtual help they get isn’t limited to lower level technology positions.
Microsoft also outsources jobs that most people believe to be exclusive to in-house employees, such as software architect, software testing engineer, and management positions in R & D. Microsoft also outsources patent filing work, with over 100 full time outsourced positions needed to handle around 2500 patent filings in a year.
3M
3M is a company that is known for more than 55 thousand products that range from adhesives, office equipment, dental and orthodontic products, car care, electronic circuits, and optical firms. The company is so large and has arms in so many industries that their need for outsourced work is hardly surprising.
3M outsources work of all types, from customer support to testing and even Safety Supervision. The company has also set up its own staffing services for clinical documentation improvement, providing new jobs to its partners in the medical field.
AT&T
Texas-based telecommunications giant AT&T Inc. is one of the consistent providers of outsourced work in the U.S. As the second largest mobile service provider in the country, AT&T requires so much manpower that they literally have no choice but to outsource to other countries. The kind of positions they outsource tend to be the typical jobs normally associated with call center work, such as tech support, customer assistance, and billing. AT&T is closely guarding the specifics of their outsourcing practices, but they are known to have needed hundreds of application development and maintenance work for over 150 products in 2000 alone, with the numbers expected to have grown through the years.
Google
Search Engine giant Google is also another company that likes to keep secrets when it comes to their hiring practices, but they have not hidden the fact that they have a hand in so many tech pies that they can’t do everything in-house. The most commonly known work they outsource concerns the sales support activities for their Ad network. If they’re willing to outsource such a crucial part of their operations (the ad network accounts for the majority of their revenue), it is not far fetched to think that they’re also sending a lot of low level IT positions or jobs requiring experienced and highly skilled virtual assistants overseas.
These are just some of the most recognizable global names to have embraced outsourcing. The industry has proven itself to be a great solution for reducing expenses while allowing expansion that many companies both large and small have since followed suit.
